6 holiday tips, from parents who get it
We asked Undivided Navigators and advocates for their best tips for enjoying holiday celebrations with their kiddos’ unique needs in mind. Here’s one from Undivided Navigator Gabriela:
“We have set up the expectation of NOT watching the kids open their presents” as it “has been very difficult and dysregulating in the past. Prepping family members for not having that expectation and/or reaction sets things up so that others understand what may be difficult for the kids, and how we have adapted what we do to make the experience more enjoyable.”
From gift giving (and gift opening) and family gatherings to travel, seasonal foods, and more, read 5 more parent-tested ways to help make the festivities merry, bright, and disability-friendly! Find our 6 holiday parent tips here→
FREE visual storybook template
Visual stories help take the mystery out of holiday moments. They show kids what’s going on and what to expect in situations that might seem a bit confusing or stressful. Check out our holiday visual storybook template to help you get started! You can download the printable PDF here, or make a copy of the Google doc to digitally customize your own holiday story.
